Hello and welcome to YABRB (Yet Another Beer Review Blog)

Hi,

I'm The Mariner and I like beer.

One of my favorite pastimes is sampling different beers from all over the world, each with their own unique flavors and textures.  It's amazing to me how each beer is unique, given that most of them use the same ingredients yet end up with widely varying end products.

I've toyed with starting a review blog like this for quite some time but never have bitten the bullet and sat down to write.  Today I decided I had waited long enough so I now find myself staring at a blank blog template trying to figure out how to get started.

One of the difficult things about reviewing beer, or anything food- or drink-related is that taste is so subjective; the qualities I look for in a beer may be exactly what you DON'T like.   To help you figure out if my tastes match yours I will give you a breakdown on the styles of beer that I like so that you can buffer my opinions against your own.

By far, my favorite beer comes from Bavaria.  The most enjoyable beers to me as a group would be the Munich Helles and Dunkel Lagers.  I also really tend to enjoy Bohemian and Euro Lagers, British and Irish Lagers and Ales, and very occasionally a black-and-tan.  So far, the top of my heap would be Weihenstephaner Original Premium; I think it has all of the qualities that I look for in an enjoyable beer.  Unfortunately, it's quite hard to find in most places - when you do find it, it's expensive.  Such is my luck with beer though, it seems that every one I develop a fondness for is difficult to find.

Over the coming days and weeks, I will post reviews of various beers I run across, and I may even do some series.  I'm starting off these reviews with the most popular AALs (American Adjunct Lagers).  I figure if I start from the bottom, there's nowhere to go but up.  I don't normally drink them and I find some of them to be quite difficult to get through.  However, I promise to judge each beer against its style as best as I can.  I won't directly compare Guinness to Budweiser, for example.  I simply don't think it can be done that way.

I'll also try to keep them entertaining because the Internet already has enough boring, snobby beer reviews.

Thanks for visiting and I look forward to your feedback.
